The Animal-Lover’s Food Guide to NYC

Do you love animals? Then don’t eat them! It’s easy to eat cruelty-free in NYC. Here’s our ultimate vegan guide to eating the Big Apple.

Impossible Burger @ Momofuku Nishi

Impossible Burger at Nishi

The very meaty no-meat burger by Impossible Foods made has made its debut this year at Momofuku Nishi – a Korean/Italian spot – in the Chelsea neighborhood. Made from plants, but convincingly juicy, the Impossible Burger is sure worth a detour (we tried it ourselves, and it’s delicious!). Be sure to go for lunch or arrive as soon as dinner service starts to be guaranteed to try the burger – they sell out fast!

Chef Chloe Coscarelli has taken NYC by storm with her 100% vegan versions of fast food favorites. The mac & cheese with shiitake bacon is rich and delicious, and the menu is a great balance of healthy salads and greasy, satisfying burgers. There are 2 by CHLOE joints open already (both are very popular – expect to wait in a long line!) with 2 more due to open soon.

Superiority Burger

Hailed as one of the best veggie burgers on the planet, Superiority Burger in East Village is the perfect spot for tasty vegan food on the go. Just ask for their famous burger without the cheese for 100% plant-based deliciousness!

Dunwell Doughnuts

Not necessarily a restaurant, but Dunwell Doughnuts is definitely worth a mention! This very recently opened little store in East Village is a sweet delight – so many mouth-watering doughnuts, all totally vegan, all completely irresistible. They also have a small selection of vegan ice cream for hot summer days in the city!

Nix is one of the hottest veggie restaurants in town – be sure to make a reservation in advance. This fancy Greenwich Village eatery has a dedicated vegan menu that changes seasonally, showcasing the best local produce with their creative and totally delicious menu.

Taim NYC

If you love falafel, you CANNOT MISS Taim. This vegan-friendly Israeli spot serves up the crispiest falafel in the city on soft flatbreads with a whole host of mind-blowing extras. There are two locations – in West Village and Nolita – and a travelling food truck.

The Butcher’s Daughter

Butchers Daughter

This cool, creative plant-based cafe is a great place to grab brunch with friends or relax over breakfast. The Butcher’s Daughter menu has wonderful range of healthy food and drinks, all made from local, seasonal produce. They make everything in-house, and it’s all super tasty!

Peacefood Cafe

Peacefood Cafe at Union Square is a vegan kitchen and bakery with an extensive and exciting plant-based menu. They have a little of everything – from sushi to sandwiches, pizza and lots of desserts.

Beyond Sushi

Beyond Sushi

Beyond Sushi serves up the best non-fish sushi around – they call themselves ‘the pioneer of the plant-based sushi movement’. Aside from their sustainable credentials, Beyond Sushi’s food is the stuff of vegan dreams – inventive rice rolls, warming noodle soups and delicious dumplings.

When in Rome (or NYC), it seems only right to get yourself a slice of the good stuff. 00+Co serves up wood-fired plant-based pizzas, a phenomenal vegan cheese board, and creative brunches in their cozy space in East Village.
