5The Tsetse Fly
This unremarkable little fly kills around 10,000 humans a year. Tsetse, sometimes known as tik-tik flies, are large biting flies that inhabit much of midcontinental Africa between the Sahara and the Kalahari Deserts. Tsetse transmit Trypanosomiasis to humans; a disease that causes fever and headaches, behavior changes, confusion, and poor coordination and eventually death.
